Technical characteristics of the Diodes
So far we already have an idea of the functioning of a diode; but it is convenient that we study in depth a little more the electrical concepts that determine this functioning. For it we are going to serve of the typical typical curve of a diode imaginary semiconductor to ourselves, as we can see in the graph, which is going to give us information on the behavior of this electronic component.
The behavior of the diodes is more or less similar to the provided one by this curve, but the resultant values can change according to the potency of the diode. Let's happen to explain the graph then:
First of all we have the current in direct sense (If) represented in milliamperes (mA) that is the current that can circulate along the diode when this one presents the minimal resistance. On the other hand, in the right horizontal line we have the scale of the direct tensions (Vf) expressed in volts (V) to which the diode can be submitted for the step of the current. All that contituye the direct characteristic, that is to say, the step of the current in step sense. A diode that had the characteristics represented in this graph, on having applied a tension of 20 V to him, already would allow to spend approximately 10 mA, but between 20 and 35 V it would 'go off' and would allow to go on more from 60 mA.
In the inverse characteristic, which is represented by the left and in the low part of the graph, it is a question of showing the functioning of the diode in the blockade sense. It be observed that here the inverse tension (Vr) is in kilovolts units (kV), that is to say, fractions of 1000 V; and the intensity to (Go) in much smaller fractions, of microamperes (uA), that is to say, fractions that are equivalent to ampere 1/1000000. So that the current agrees to happen in the opposite direction in a diode as the represented one would need a tension between 500 to 600 volts with which there would take place the step of currents of the order of 0,50 milliamperes.
The values of the inverse characteristic are called currents of escape to (Go).
