Functions of the Diodes At first sight it seems that the diode might only have the mission to be a rectifier of current, of the way that is used in the alternator. But the diodes serve for more things and exist, in addition to the called diodes of surface that are the characteristic ones that we have just described, other forms and functions for these electronic components. Next we will put the functions of the diodes with his respective explanation.

A. As rectifiers: This is the most current employment and to which we have already explained.

B. As protector: A circuit where it is convenient that the current circulates only in a certain sense, and never in the opposite direction, can be protected by the presence of a diode. In the image we see an example where a diode has been placed between a generator of direct current and the battery. The diode still does not allow to spend the current of the battery to the generator cuado if it does it from the generator to the drummer so that it does the times of a circuit breaker without mobile contacts not degaste.

C. It discharges: Position in derivation in a circuit provided with a source of self-induction, as it is represented in the image, a diode blocks the way of some current when the circuit is fed by an exterior current; but it allows the step of an extracurrent of rupture when the switch is opened.
